POWER 8 Writing in Science for ELL

This 15-week online professional development course will introduce classroom science teachers to technology and metacognitive strategies to assess and improve scientific writing for ELL in grades 5-12. This course would also be suitable for language arts teachers who collaborate with science teachers on writing projects. Your participation in weekly online discussions, completion of an 8-week case study implementing these methods in your grade 5-12 classroom, as well as weekly learning reflection summaries are required

Reading Comprehension in Math for ELL

This online course explores the subject of math and current teaching strategies for ELLs in grades K-8. Topics covered in the course include the use of metacognitive strategies, building vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, the use of technology to improve learning, video and audio “feedforward,” assessment, cultural bias, the value of formative data, collaborative writing, NCTM, WIDA 2012, the Common Core Standards.
