CDS Announces Course Offerings for Spring 2008

CDS is offering two classes for Spring 2008:
DIS 697: Exploring Contemporary Disability Studies Topics
Thursdays from 4:30 to 7 in BUS AD (Shidler) E202
A seminar offering an in-depth exploration of compelling topics related to advancing the social, political, and economic integration of individuals with disabilities of all ages and their families in partnership with allies and professionals working in the field.

Directed Readings/Research: Mentoring
CDS will also offer a combined graduate/undergraduate course in Mentoring, Wednesday, from 4:30 to 7 in Webster 104. Registration may done via either COE or the Outreach College. For the Outreach College there is only an administrative fee of $107 to sign up for the class.
Course goals are to:
- Create linkages between pedagogy, universal design, and student success in the context of mentoring as a vital component of university life.
- Discuss diverse viewpoints about mentoring from disability awareness, policy, and cultural perspectives.
- Develop disability studies competencies, effective advocacy and empowerment strategies, exploring successful mentoring initiatives, opportunities to apply theory-to-practice exercises, and other topics related to mentoring at the postsecondary level.
