About the Course
The goal of this course is to provide background and understanding of various cultures, including Asian American and Pacific Rim cultural issues, in the conceptualization and treatment of persons with disabilities.
- Core course for the Interdisciplinary Disability and Diversity Studies Certificate program.
- Emphasis will be placed on introducing students to knowledge and theories about cultural variations in the conceptualization of disability and provision of services, and diverse perspectives about disability rights, policy, and culture.
- Individual and team research projects will be encouraged.
Who Should Take This Course?
- All levels of graduate students, from a variety of disciplines, including education, social sciences, law, social work, political science, American studies, ethnic studies, health, and any other disciplines where educators and community leaders work with individuals with disabilities.
- Those seeking a course for their minors or cognate programs.
- Students with diverse educational, multicultural, and disability points of view are encouraged to attend.
