International Forum 2008: Securing the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
April 12 & 13, 2008, Honolulu, Hawai‘i
With the recent passage and unprecedented global support of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, this is an opportune time
to discuss the convention and its relevance in our diverse/local communities. The forum’s intent is to foster learning about the Convention as well
to facilitate new strategic thinking for the realization of rights for persons with disabilities.

2008 Summer Institute: Pacific Partnerships for Deaf-Blind Technical Assistance Services Project
June 16-27, 2008: Hawai‘i Center for the Deaf and the Blind (HCDB), Honolulu, Hawai‘i
This two week session will feature new teaching strategies: activities for inclusion, deaf education literacy strategies, and communication strategies.
The second week will be a Practicum at the Hawai‘i Center for the Deaf and the Blind (HCDB) and in the community.

Summer Leadership Institute on Disability and Diversity
July 29-31 2008: University of Hawai‘i at Manoa
A dynamic three day leadership institute focused on improving access to postsecondary education for students with disabilities and other diverse
learners. The innovative program will include noted speakers, films, group discussion, and group/individual projects. The 15 applicants who are selected

Workshop: Poetry as Performance Art

CDS and VSA Arts Hawaii present a special Performance Art Workshop taught by two world-renowned performance artists: Petra Kuppers & Neil Marcus.
Come and try out your voice, bring your own poems, or work with other disabled poets’ material. We will work with you to perform this poetry:
this workshop will have you move and shout, improvise and play! Work in groups to find new ways of bringing words on the page to life in our mouths, on
our bodies, in the spaces we share. No experience necessary: neither as a poet nor a performer. All we need is curiosity and a willingness to give it a
go! Bring clothes you can move in!
