Capacity Building Institute: Enhancing Transition to Postsecondary Education and Employment for Youth with Disabilities through Culturally Relevant Supports, Services, and Education

Dates: March 2nd and 3rd, 2005
Location: Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, Honolulu, Hawai‘i

Description: This CBI will critically explore the successful preparation for and transition to postsecondary education and employment for youth with disabilities in the context of cultural and linguistic diversity. Speakers will offer suggestions for practices that create or strengthen culturally relevant support services, educational environments, assessment tools, and community/family partnerships.

Pacific Rim 2005

Dates: February 28, March 1
Location: Sheraton Waikiki, Hawai‘i

Since the first Pacific Rim (Pac Rim) Conference in 1985, the scope and size of this premier event has grown to include participants from the U.S. Mainland, Alaska, Pacific Islands Nations, Japan, Australia, the Philippines and numerous other countries. Persons with disabilities, family members, researchers, and service providers join policy-makers and nationally recognized speakers in the field of disabilities to participate in the Pac Rim Conference to learn from each other and to share resources for communities to fully accept and support persons with disabilities.

CBI: Collaboration Between Secondary and Postsecondary Education—Promoting Success for Students with Disabilities

Description: The Institute will explore issues related to the transition and postsecondary participation of youth with disabilities, with a focus on improving collaboration between secondary school and postsecondary school personnel and policies.
