What is the Certificate in Disability and Diversity Studies?
A fifteen-credit graduate level Certificate Program offering an interdisciplinary approach to disability and diversity studies for students and professionals across disciplines including education, social work, psychology, public health, law, nursing, sociology, political science, and others.
Students participate in interdisciplinary experiences that include joint planning, decision-making, and goal setting which focus on understanding contemporary disability issues, research, and effective practices from a cultural and historical context.
Disability Studies training and scholarship is guided by the premise that disability derives from a complex interplay of social, cultural, educational, political, economic, and biological determinants. The goal of disability studies is to analyze disability phenomena in the context of social practices and cultural values about human difference, leading to effective and culturally sensitive services for persons with disabilities of all ages.
