2009 Abled Hawaii Artists’ Festival is a Success
On Saturday, July 25th, 2009 Abled Hawaii Artists-Big Island (AHA-BI) held their second annual Big Island AHA Festival at the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo. The AHA Big Island Festival was an huge success in bringing together over 50 artists, performers and community organizations together to celebrate disability awareness, diversity, and the signing of the Americans with Disabilities act. Over 1000 people attended the AHA Festival and enjoyed performances, an art sale, and silent auction fundraiser.
Abled Hawaii Artists is a volunteer-based organization sponsored in part by the Center on Disability Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. AHA’s mission is to raise community awareness of disability issues and promote inclusion through a festival that focuses on individual abilities through the arts. AHA Festivals are also the only celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act in the state of Hawai‘i.
